Congratulations to Dr. Jean Barman on being awarded the third annual Basil Stuart-Stubbs Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Book on British Columbia for her book, French Canadians, Furs, and Indigenous Women in the Making of the Pacific Northwest (UBC Press, 2014). The prize, sponsored by the UBC Library and the Pacific BookWorld News Society, will be presented on June 9, 2015 at a reception at UBC’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.
The annual Basil Stuart-Stubbs Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Book on British Columbia recognizes an outstanding scholarly book published on a British Columbia subject by a Canadian author, and was established in memory of Basil Stuart-Stubbs, former University Librarian and Director of UBC’s School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, who passed away in 2012.
Dr. Barman is Professor Emerita in UBC Faculty of Education’s Department of Educational Studies (EDST), and was recipient of the George Woodcock Lifetime Award in 2014. Her book, French Canadians, Furs, and Indigenous Women in the Making of the Pacific Northwest, also received the 2015 Governor General Award for Scholarly Research: Sir John A. MacDonald Prize.
