The Faculty of Education is pleased to announce that Dr. Jan Hare will take up the position as Associate Dean, Indigenous Education effective July 1, 2016.
Dr. Hare is an Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Language and Literacy Education. As an Indigenous scholar and educator, she has sought to transform education in ways that are more inclusive of Indigenous epistemologies and languages. This work has a solid grounding in Aboriginal engagement and the broader community, with research conducted in the province and across the country. Her central research interest is improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal learners and centering Indigenous knowledge systems within educational reform from early childhood education to post-secondary. More recently, Jan has led new program and research initiatives in the Faculty focusing on Indigenous ways of knowing in teacher education. She is committed to equity in teaching, learning and research as it involves all students and faculty and developing innovations that advance Indigenous education priorities across the Faculty, the University, and beyond. In addition, Jan previously served in the position of Acting Associate Dean of Indigenous Education.
Indigenous Education remains among the priorities within the Faculty of Education and is an existing national and international site of excellence in Indigenous education and research. In her role as Associate Dean, Indigenous Education, Dr. Hare will provide strategic leadership in the areas of Aboriginal/indigenous programs and research in the Faculty of Education.
